Why go

What makes Espanola special

Espanola is the oldest of the main islands, and its isolation has produced species found nowhere else, most famously the waved albatross. Every visit here is by cruise, since there is nowhere to stay, which keeps its wildlife sites wonderfully uncrowded.

01

The waved albatross

Espanola holds almost the entire world population, nesting from around April to December, with their courtship dance one of the great Galapagos spectacles.

02

Punta Suarez

A nature walk among sea lions and marine iguanas, with blue-footed and Nazca boobies, and the Espanola mockingbird, the only carnivorous mockingbird in the islands.

03

The blowholes

Seawater forced through a lava crack shoots skyward along the cliffs at Punta Suarez, one of the most photographed spots in the archipelago.

04

Gardner Bay

A beautiful arc of white sand where sea lions doze in the shallows and the swimming is some of the best in the islands.
