Why go

What makes Genovesa special

Genovesa's caldera has partly collapsed into the sea, forming Darwin Bay, a natural amphitheatre of cliffs packed with seabirds. It sits too far north for most short cruises, so it tends to reward those on longer itineraries.

01

Darwin Bay

A wet landing beside a tidal lagoon thick with marine birds, with a trail leading on to a clifftop viewpoint over the bay.

02

Prince Philip's Steps

A steep climb up the cliff face to a plateau where you can walk right past nesting red-footed and Nazca boobies without disturbing them.

03

Red-footed boobies

The smallest of the three booby species and, unusually, a tree-nester, easiest to see well on Genovesa of all the islands.

04

Storm petrels

Enormous numbers nest in the cliffside rocks, hunted by short-eared owls that have adapted to hunt in daylight here.
