Why we are experts

I first took people to the Galapagos Islands back in 1991 when I was working as a tour leader in South America. A lobster lunch on Christmas Day in San Cristobal with my wife-to-be is one of our fondest memories.

Why we are experts

This picture’s from the 90’s!

By the late 1990’s I was already recognised as an expert on the Galapagos and was commissioned to write the Galapagos section of Frommer’s first edition of their Adventure Guides – South America; along with the Ecuadorian mainland and Peru sections. I learned to dive for another commission – writing for Wanderlust Magazine and the travel pages of the Financial Times…but that’s another story!

Since my wife Amanda and I founded Tribes in 1998 the Galapagos has always been one of our most popular destinations, fuelled by our ability to impart our knowledge and passion for this part of the world to our potential clients.

I have returned to the islands may times over the years and have, more recently, become involved with a conservation project on the Islands along with The LATA Foundation and The Galapagos Conservation Trust.
We have always made a point of sending our staff to the Galapagos so that they too can talk from a position of firsthand knowledge to help our clients find the right Galapagos holiday. In fact our training is so good that occasionally one of our staff will move on, as you do in life, and ends up as a Galapagos expert for a competing company!

We’re a small team, but we know our stuff. And I am still very much involved with the day to day running of Tribes and can often be heard talking through the wonders of the Galapagos with our clients.

Galapagos Specialists pulls together this wealth of experience and knowledge that has built up over the past couple of decades. New yachts come along and old ones leave the islands; and new ways of seeing the Galapagos have been developed with ever better guiding, better itineraries and more activities being developed over the years. Of course we have our favourites but on this website you can see the whole gambit of what is available and we hope you find it a useful online resource about the Galapagos. Of course we also hope you’ll drop us an email or pick up the phone so that we can help you book your ideal Galapagos holiday.

Our staff do not work on commission so they are able to give you an unbiased opinion of what would suit you best. We think this helps us find the Galapagos holiday that is right for you rather than the one which will earn our staff the highest commission! That’s probably why so many of our clients travel with us again and recommend us to their friends and family.
